This route brings United back to Glasgow after pulling out in October 2019. Planes will take off each day until this October 24. The airline is using its 737-8 jets.
“We are excited to return to Glasgow with the launch of our service to Newark/New York, further underlining the importance of Scotland within United’s global route network,” said Karolien De Hertogh, Director Sales UK and Ireland, United Airlines, according to Breaking Travel News. “With more seats and flights from Scotland to the United States than any other airline, our customers in Scotland can enjoy even greater travel choice and the possibility to connect seamlessly via our U.S. hubs to over 220 onward destinations across the Americas.”
United now runs as many as four nonstop trips each day from Scotland to America during Summer 2026. This covers year-round daily trips from Edinburgh to Newark, near year-round flights linking Edinburgh with Washington, D.C., plus a seasonal daily run from Edinburgh to Chicago O’Hare.
“We are delighted to welcome the return of the United Airlines direct service between Glasgow and New York, restoring one of our most popular long-haul routes,” said Kam Jandu, CEO, AGS Airports. “The route has always been in strong demand, previously carrying significant passenger numbers as well as key Scottish exports such as whisky and seafood.”
The Glasgow-Newark link fits into United’s bigger Summer 2026 plans. United stands as the sole U.S. carrier with nonstop flights to four fresh spots from Newark: Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland; and Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
United will reach 44 spots across the Atlantic in 2026. The airline plans close to 770 weekly transatlantic trips back and forth when summer hits.
Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow City Region Cabinet, praised the route’s return. “The United States is one of our most important international markets, and this new direct service will make it even easier for people to visit Glasgow, do business here, and experience everything our city and wider region have to offer,” Aitken said.
Travelers can hop through Newark Airport to reach over 220 more places throughout the Americas. The route also brings tourists into Scotland to see golf courses, whisky makers, and the Highlands.
