The man shot and killed by police in Ashland was identified as Demitri Zimmer, a 24-year-old man from Laconia, the attorney general’s office said Wednesday.
Zimmer “produced a gun” and exchanged fire with officers during a traffic stop on Sunday evening, wounding one Ashland police officer who was transported to Concord Hospital, according to a press release. That officer was released on Tuesday.
Zimmer died at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds, according to the office of the chief medical examiner.
The attorney general’s office has not released the names of the officers who fired their weapons and is investigating whether their use of deadly force was justified.
This is the third deadly encounter between residents and police in New Hampshire this year.
Megan Whiting, 27, was shot in her Northfield apartment by police who responded to a domestic violence disturbance call on April 6. Days prior, Matthew Masse, 38, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a shootout with law enforcement in Raymond.
