Dark Horse Reveals The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—Secrets of the Zonai Art Book

Dark Horse’s various The Legend of Zelda reference books like Hyrule Historia have been some of the company’s hottest sellers in recent years, and it’s not hard to understand why. Dark Horse is about to expand that collection again with the release of the long-awaited book focused on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

IGN can exclusively reveal The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—Secrets of the Zonai, a new hardcover art book. Check out the cover art to the standard version below:

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—Secrets of the Zonai is a 9″ x 12″ hardcover book featuring 424 pages of art and material shedding light on the lore behind and development of Tears of the Kingdom. The book opens with 50 pages of promotional illustrations and character art, followed by nearly 300 pages of sketches, notes, concept art, storyboards, and anecdotes about development, followed by over 80 pages of Hyrule history and lore elading up to the events of the game. The book includes interviews with Tears of the Kingdom Producer Eiji Aonuma, Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and Art Director Satoru Takizawa.

“From the birth of the Zonai people all the way through the resurrection of the Demon King and beyond, this book is a peek behind the curtain of both the making of The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom as well as the rich lore that makes this world feel so lived in,” said senior editor Patrick Thorpe in a statement. “The art and insights make this book a must-have for any fan of The Legend of Zelda series!”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom—Secrets of the Zonai will be released as both a standard hardcover for $59.99 and a deluxe Hero’s Edition version (which includes a slipcase cover, world map, and art print) for $119.99. Both versions will be released on October 20, 2026. You can preorder the book on Amazon or through the Dark Horse Direct website.

In other Zelda news, rumors suggest a remake of The Ocarina of Time will be hitting the Switch 2 in time for the holiday season this year. Nintendo is apparently “absolutely furious” about that leak.
