The installation features master and redundant servers equipped with software for playout, backup, remote scheduling, offline schedule editing and graphics generation. The system also includes the Media Gateway for live media delivery and distribution.
The news network operates seven local channels in the New York tri-state area and five regional channels focused on traffic and weather. Its content is also available via a website, mobile app and more than a dozen streaming platforms.
Content from the network’s journalists is ingested into the PlayBox Neo system and scheduled onto a playlist. Live events are inserted in real-time and output as SDI signals or IP streams. The system uses SCTE digital program insertion (DPI) to trigger advertisements, with PlayBox Neo providing custom modifications for specific regional headends.
Producers use the Multi-Playout Manager to update playlists remotely, allowing them to select and edit stories and build on-air playlists — without master control training.
“We could not be prouder of our work with this broadcaster,” Van Duke, PlayBox Neo U.S. director of operations, said. “They’re a phenomenal outlet who put our technology to work every day. They cover a very busy news market with a great deal of late-breaking news and events. We were able to adapt to the workflow they already had in place.”
Using both AirBox Neo and TitleBox Neo, the news service performs file-based video playback and live pass-through streaming with graphic overlays. The Media Gateway component provides reception and conversion of broadcast signals, including video up/down/cross conversion and transcoding.
