Man died in Windsor house fire that burned for ‘significant amount of time’
One man died in a Windsor house fire Thursday morning.
Members of the Hillsboro Fire Department were the first to respond to the house at Stone Circle at 3:54 a.m. after a caller reported their neighbor’s house was smoldering, according to the State Fire Marshal.
First responders found that the rural single-family home was nearly burned to the ground, concluding that the fire had been active for “a significant amount of time” before they arrived. Firefighters initiated a search for a missing person and began extinguishing hot spots.
Rescuers found an adult man, whose identity was withheld pending an autopsy with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators with the Fire Marshal’s Office are working to discover the cause of the fire, but do not believe it is suspicious.
Hillsboro Fire Department members are assisting investigators. Personnel from Henniker, Deering, Antrim and Washington also responded. No first responders were injured during the incident.
