Gov. Tim Walz has made it clear that he’s not interested in filling a U.S. Senate seat.

Some analysts speculated that Walz could fill a Senate seat if Sen. Amy Klobuchar wins the governor’s race, which Walz bowed out of early this year.

“The context was Eric asked me if I wanted to fill out Klobuchar’s Senate term and I said I’d rather eat glass than do that,” Walz said during a news conference at the Capitol on Tuesday.

Klobuchar was reelected to her Senate seat in 2024, meaning her current term runs until 2031. If she were elected governor, someone would have to fill that seat for the remainder of her term, and the governor holds the power to appoint someone to fill that spot until a special election is held by the next regular election.

Walz was a member of Congress from 2007 until 2019, serving as a U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 1st Congressional District. However, in the wake of ending his bid to seek a third term as governor, he doesn’t seem interested in other public offices.

The governor also called for more transparency in all forms of government, emphasizing its importance for public trust.
