A message sent to members of the St. Ambrose Catholic Community informed individuals that a man was removed from the church on Wednesday morning.

According to the message, a man “connected to a situation involving the University of St. Thomas” was acting erratically during the 8 a.m. mass.

Acting out of an “abundance of caution,” the St. Ambrose church said the man was formally trespassed, and Woodbury police arrived to remove him from the area.

St. Ambrose is also home to a Catholic school that serves students in grades 1-8.

The individual, who was not named, is known to have occasionally attended Mass at St. Ambrose during previous services, according to the church.

St. Ambrose said its safety protocols were followed and that the individual will not be allowed to remain on church or school property if he returns. Security personnel are monitoring the campus, and all church and school activities are continuing as scheduled.

The man is reportedly connected to another incident at the University of St. Thomas.

According to a post from the university, school officials received a message from someone claiming to be on campus with a firearm. The man was threatening to harm himself.

The university shared the lockdown alert shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday, citing an “active threat.”

The initial alert urged students and staff to “Remain inside your building,” with both the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses impacted. The lockdown was lifted after it was determined the man had left the campus.

At this time, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has not been able to confirm whether the man has been charged.
