A Scott County woman has been convicted of second-degree murder for the 2024 shooting death of her boyfriend, court records show.
After a two-week trial, jurors returned a guilty verdict on Friday against Jennifer Lynn Lieber, 47, of Credit River, for the murder of David Joseph Nanovic, 47.

According to a criminal complaint, Nanovic was shot and killed the night of March 4, 2024. Scott County sheriff’s deputies responded to the home around 10:23 p.m. for a welfare check because one of the children in the home had told Lieber’s estranged husband that Lieber was acting “weird” and had threatened to kill herself.
When deputies arrived, Nanovic was covered in blood at the foot of the stairs. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lieber commented that she “really f—ed up” and told investigators that she and Nanovic had gotten into an argument in which she kicked the gun from his hand and it went off, hitting Nanovic.
Nanovic’s 10-year-old son, who lived with the couple, told police that Lieber had been drinking and verbally abusing his father all night and was carrying a handgun around the house, according to the complaint. At one point, Lieber waved the gun at them and threatened to kill them.
The child said Lieber had acted like this in the past and had physically harmed his father.
Around 9:30 p.m., the boy and his father retreated to the pool house. Later, when they attempted to go back in the house, Lieber brandished a handgun outside, warned them not to come inside and fired a shot, charging documents state.
Nanovic approached the house again with his hands raised, and the child said that was the last time he saw his father.
An autopsy determined Nanovic died from a gunshot to the forehead. It was a contact wound, suggesting the muzzle of the gun was pressed against his skin.
As of Monday, no date had been set for Lieber’s sentencing. She faces a maximum prison term of 40 years.
