Reminder: real estate taxes are due Feb. 2, which is a Monday. The question is if town offices are closed because of the weather can the bill be paid Feb. 3 without a penalty?

The Rev. Dr. Susan Cartmell,  the new pastor at the South Amherst Congregational Church, sent me an email about special services “Calming Candlelit Musical Service “ that will be held every Wednesday, Feb. 4 to March 25 at 6 p.m. The evening includes  live music, prayer, and time for quiet reflection, based on the practices of the Taizé Community in France. “It’s like yoga for the soul,” she wrote.

The Taizé Community was formed to promote peace and understanding after World War II. The evening includes chanting from the music of the Taize monks in France. Though started by these Protestant brothers, the chants have gained a following around the world, she wrote.

A friendly community supper of soup, salad, and bread will be served at 5:30 p.m. with vegan and gluten free options. Donation optional.

Sorry to say  the Farmer’s Almanac was not very accurate with its daily prediction. For New England Jan. 24-27, “Rain expected along the coast from MA South.” However, under the general winter forecast, “Frequent snowstorms in New England should keep snow lovers happy.”
