Minneapolis police found Patton in a parked SUV near the intersection of North Newton Avenue and Oa Park Avenue. He had been shot five times in the head and neck and died at the scene, according to court documents.
Investigators learned that the SUV was associated with an active ATF investigation involving Franklin and Breham.
Surveillance video showed Franklin and Breham cleaning out the SUV hours before the murder, and cellphone data placed them at the scene around the time of the shooting.
DNA testing on the SUV and discharged cartridge casings found inside the vehicle linked back to Franklin and Brehman, court documents state.
