What started as an idea to install a golf simulator in their garage turned into a new business that opens this week.
Liz Jacob and her husband, Ray, started 4oreplay Golf just a couple of months after realizing the golf simulator wasn’t a fit for the garage.
“With the weather here, it’s just not feasible to keep expensive stuff cold, and we literally just wanted to do something indoors but make it our own so we could come anytime we wanted to and invite our friends,” Jacob said.
A chance stop at the Western Mall to say hi to a friend caused them to spot a putting green on the mezzanine. Then, they realized a space below was available for lease.
“So we started doing research, and it snowballed from there,” Jacob said.
“We have a lot of people really excited about us being here.”
The 1,500-square-foot space includes three simulators from Full Swing, which is endorsed by Tiger Woods and has technology developed in Sioux Falls.
“We have literally the latest and greatest technology,” Jacob said.
4oreplay Golf won’t have memberships in order to keep availability for the public and special events. Tee times can be booked online in half-hour increments.
Jacob said the plan is to do a weekly golf tournament, a women’s league, a dart league and potentially offer lessons.
The business has a beer and wine license and plans to offer frozen pizzas and snacks. A full liquor license will be in place for the grand opening weekend.
“Hiring is good,” Jacob added. “We’re completely covered.”
The location at the Western Mall is helpful for drawing traffic and in giving visitors something extra to do, she added. She envisions parents dropping off kids at a movie or lesson and using the golf simulators.
For the grand opening, anyone signing up on the website for a tee time is entered to win a golf-related prize, with daily drawings.
Hours at 4oreplay Golf are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
