BLOOMFIELD, Ind. — January 7, 2026
Several juveniles suffered minor injuries after a Bloomfield School District school bus ran off the road and came to rest on its side Wednesday morning in Greene County, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies were called about 7:23 a.m. to East Mineral-Koleen Road near Bloomfield, where the bus went off the roadway in a curve while traveling west, the sheriff’s office said. The driver, 45-year-old Joshua Francis of Newberry, was identified as a contract bus driver for the school district.
He was driving a 2013 International school bus when he lost control for an undetermined reason, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said the bus continued into a ditch and down an embankment before coming to rest leaning on its passenger side above a creek.
The students were safely evacuated from the bus before law enforcement arrived, the sheriff’s office said. Several passengers were reported to have minor injuries and were taken by family members for evaluation.
The crash remains under investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Indiana State Police. Deputy Harvey Holt was listed as the investigating officer.
