School bus involved in multi-vehicle crash in Bartholomew County; 1 student injured
According to Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane, deputies responded to the intersection of Heights Court and State Street in Columbus in response to reports of a serious crash.
Lane confirmed that three vehicles were involved and that a student on the bus sustained a minor injury. Lane urged motorists to avoid the area as deputies work to clear the scene. BCSO said that the roadway reopened around 6:30 p.m.
FOX59/CBS4 confirmed the school bus was transporting students home from Columbus East High School when the crash occurred. Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation shared the following statement:
“This afternoon BCSC Bus #204 was involved in a crash while transporting students home from Columbus East High School. First responders report one student on the bus was injured in the crash. This student has been transported to Columbus Regional Hospital. The family of this student has been notified. All other students were transferred to another bus and delivered home.”
