Snooki the Turtle
One of the newest additions to the Minnesota Zoo can now be found at the institution’s shark reef.
Snooki, a female loggerhead sea turtle, was introduced to the reef on Wednesday, where she can now be seen by the zoo’s visitors.
At the zoo since late October, Snooki has been behind the scenes at the Minnesota Zoo to allow her time to adjust to her new environment and prepare her to be introduced to new animals.
According to the zoo, Snooki is very healthy and seems to be showing interest in exploring deeper water, which she was unable to do for almost a decade.

Rescued in 2016 after being stranded on a New Jersey beach, Snooki was later taken to North Carolina for rehabilitation, where she became a bit of a celebrity for her habit of splashing volunteers near her tank.
Despite numerous medical procedures and treatment, Snooki was determined to be non-releasable due to a spinal injury, which prevented her from diving and resting on the ocean floor.
After years of searching for a permanent home, the Minnesota Zoo’s Atlantic Reef exhibit was selected.
The 250,000-gallon habitat is around 50 times larger than her previous pool, allowing her more room to explore, encounter new species, and enjoy an enriched environment.
