HADLEY — A new traffic pattern for where Bay Road goes over the Fort River begins Monday as part of a bridge replacement project.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will be closing the southbound lane, with alternating one-way traffic to be controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the existing sidewalk adjacent to Bay Road northbound.

The closure is required for the first phase of the bridge replacement, which will include the demolition of the southern half of the bridge, followed by construction of the southern half of the new structure, and finally construction of the temporary pedestrian bridge on the southern side.

Appropriate signs and messages will help guide drivers through the work area.

Snell Street million in Amherst

AMHERST — Amherst’s Department of Public Works crews will be doing milling and repaving of Snell Street under the Norwottuck Rail Trail bridge crossing on Monday.

The road will be closed between 208 Snell St. and Moody Field Road that day, with the Patriots Day holiday expected to minimize disruption for residents and businesses.

Also starting that day will be Palmer Paving and Fillion’s Landscaping returning to South East Street to complete the installation of roadway shoulder loam and planting of grass seed from Valley View Drive to Mill Lane.

The road will remain open to traffic but delays should be expected.
