20-year-old man ejected from car after crash, left with serious injuries

A car crash in Canterbury left a 20-year-old man from Pittsfield with serious injuries, authorities said.

Canterbury Fire and Rescue responded to a 911 call at 10:09 a.m. Sunday about a 2016 Jeep Compass that crashed along Shaker Road. Fire and Rescue responded to the scene within seven minutes of the call and took two hours to clear the scene with the assistance of the Loudon Fire Department, Canterbury Fire Chief Michael Gamache said.

Gamache said the lone occupant was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, with personnel finding him 30 yards away from the car. His injuries were considered life threatening.

Seargent Jordan Westgate of the Canterbury Police Department said the cause of the crash is still being investigated but speeding and lack of experience driving on back roads may have been factors. He said road conditions were fairly normal.

“We’re hoping for the best outcome,” Gamache said. “All of our training goes towards hoping we can make a positive outcome in people’s unfortunate incidents.”
