Man, 18, killed in Freeland shooting; teen injured

FREELAND – State troopers are investigating an overnight shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old.

The shooting happened in the Freeland area around 2:31am, according to State Police at Hazleton.

Two people were shot outside a business in the borough: a 15-year-old struck in the leg with non-life-threatening injuries and an 18-year-old struck who later died at a local hospital.

The victims sought help at the scene of a structure fire east of Hazleton City.

Troopers said they believe the shooting is an isolated incident and no immediate threat to the public exists.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact PSP Hazleton at 570-459-3890.
