SHENANDOAH – Ukrainian Catholic faithful completed a walk in their ancestors footsteps Saturday.
Just after 2pm, about a dozen folks, some carrying Ukrainian flags, arrived in town from McAdoo.
They were taking part in the “Walk for Ukraine,” an effort to recognize their heritage and raise awareness for Ukraine and the humanitarian efforts thereof.
Many were parishioners from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in McAdoo.
St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Shenandoah was the first of its kind in the United States and the earliest settlers of the faith in our area would walk weekly there for church services.
Saturday’s trek largely followed in those footsteps taken by McAdoo’s faithful until St. Mary’s was established.
