Several dogs were found dead at a Watonwan County home last week.
On Nov. 15, deputies took a report of several animals in poor condition at a pet rescue on a rural property, according to the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office.
The call came from the property owner, who was concerned about the animal’s well-being, the sheriff’s office said, adding that the owner of the pet rescue was contacted and told to address the animal’s health concerns.
The next evening, deputies were called to the property on a report that several dogs were found dead, the sheriff’s office stated.
The Animal Humane Society was also called to help with the scene. It was not immediately clear how many dogs were found dead.
Law enforcement and Animal Humane Society workers removed the remaining surviving dogs and brought them to a facility for treatment, the sheriff’s office added.
The incident is under investigation. It’s unclear if charges will be filed.
