When it’s time to buy a vehicle, don’t focus on one car.

“The more specific you are about the car you want, you’re limiting yourself,” said Scott Lambert, president of the Minnesota Automobile Dealer Association.

Lambert says to ask:

What’s available right now? — That’s a car that is ready to go on their lot

Are there any demos? — This car’s got miles, so you may get a discount, but ask if it’s been titled. If it’s been titled, it’s no longer a new car.

Are there any retired loaners or courtesy cars? — These may have been titled so they would be used, but you could always ask for that car to be sold as a certified pre-owned car.

Lambert adds that a great deal is only a great deal if it’s a car that will do what you need it to do.

“Find that vehicle that works for your lifestyle,” he says.

You can also ask if they could sell cars coming in off lease or if there are any slow sellers. These questions can unlock the perfect car for you.
