Man sentenced to 18 years for 2024 St. Paul homicide

A man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a 2024 St. Paul homicide.

A jury convicted Edward Robinson, 44, of aiding and abetting second-degree murder in September. He was given credit for 362 days already served.

Robinson and a co-defendant must pay restitution to the victim’s family.

St. Paul police responded to the 800 block of Rice Street in October 2024 and found 42-year-old Oscar Lee Covington with a gunshot wound to his torso. He later died of his injuries.

Before his death, Covington told police that a man had tried to rob him before the shooting.

While going through evidence left at the scene, investigators found a wallet that contained Robinson’s driver’s license. They also found his phone.

The man accused of actually shooting Covington is Marlon Dickey, who faces several charges, including second-degree murder and first-degree assault.
