The Petaluma officer initially stopped Aleah Trail for speeding on the northbound side of Highway 101, north of the East Washington Street overpass, at 10:02 a.m. However, she sped away moments later.
“After a brief interaction between Traill and the officer, she abruptly fled the scene, accelerating at a high rate of speed,” Petaluma PD said. “The officer returned to his patrol vehicle, and a vehicle pursuit ensued.”
The chase exceeded 100 mph as Trail continued on Highway 101 into Santa Rosa, police said. Trail then exited Highway 101 at River Road and continued to lead officers on a chase through city streets.
Traill took officers to the 2100 block of Dennis Lane in Santa Rosa, where she stopped the car and was arrested without resistance. She was booked at the Sonoma County Jail on a felony charge of reckless evading.
“The Petaluma Police Department reminds the public that fleeing from law enforcement is both dangerous and illegal,” Petaluma PD said. “Vehicle pursuits pose risks to the driver, officers, and members of the community. If you are signaled to stop by a police officer, please pull over safely and comply with lawful instructions.”
