Rankin County deputies received a request for assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service before 5:45 p.m. on November 7, 2025, in reference to an arrest warrant they were attempting to serve in the 1500 block of Shell Oil Road.
Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said the suspect was wanted on a felony charge of aggravated assault with a gun through the Omaha Police Department in Omaha, Nebraska.
Burnell said the request for assistance occurred after the suspect began firing shots at U.S. Marshals from inside the residence. They said the suspect had barricaded himself inside a home alone.
After the armored vehicles from the sheriff’s office arrived, Burnell said negotiations commenced, which were followed by more shots being fired at law enforcement officers from inside the residence.
At 8:45 p.m., authorities heard a single shot fired from inside the home and could not get a response from the suspect. Burnell said the residence was breached, and the suspect was found suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey requested that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) respond to the scene to investigate the incident.
