Florence day care worker charged with 7 counts of child neglect

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Rankin County deputies announced a woman was arrested for seven counts of contributing to the neglect of a child.

Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, said Sharon Elaine Young was arrested on October 7, 2025.

He said the arrest comes after a week-long investigation into allegations that Young abused multiple children while she was employed at a Florence day care facility.

During the course of the investigation, Burnell said evidence was obtained that showed Young abusing children under her care at the facility. Investigators with the sheriff’s office are working this case in partnership with the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH).
