According to Investigator Tyler Burnell, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call about a suicidal man at a residence off of North Shore Parkway just before 7:45 p.m. on October 31, 2025. Deputies responded to the scene and were unable to locate the man.
Burnell said deputies were later able to locate the man’s vehicle at the Lakeland Place Memorial Cemetery on Lakeland Drive. As deputies attempted to check the welfare of the man, deputies said they confirmed he was armed and standoff ensued.
After negotiations with the man, Burnell said the man fired a single shot into his torso. Medical personnel arrived at the scene and transported the man to a local hospital.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey requested that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) take over the scene in order to investigate the incident.
