IDENTIFIED: Man killed after walking in Fresno roadway

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle in north Fresno Tuesday night.

The coroner’s office identified him as 34-year-old Whallen Johnson of Fresno.

Police say it happened around 11 p.m. at Herndon and Polk avenues.

By the time officers arrived, he was lying in the street unresponsive. He died soon after being transported to the hospital.

According to witnesses, he had been walking in the road, not paying attention, with vehicles swerving to avoid him. The driver who ultimately struck him told police they were unable to see him.
