VERMILION PARISH, La. (
KLFY) — The Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office is implementing new technology to enhance public safety and reduce costs, as discussed at their recent “Sippin with the Sheriff” event.
During the event, the public had the opportunity to learn about new camera operations being installed across the parish to aid in investigations and improve safety. These cameras are part of an initiative to solve crimes more efficiently and save community funds by reducing reliance on external resources.
“A lot of the things I deal with is with the cameras and trying to build that network out throughout the parish,” said Shawn Jumoville with the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The cameras have already proven effective in critical situations. Jumoville recounted a case where a child was kidnapped, and the cameras helped track the suspect to New Orleans, resulting in the child’s safe return within 24 hours.
The initiative aims to keep more deputies on duty while decreasing spending by developing in-house operations and programs that perform the same duties as external services.
Attendees of the “Sippin with the Sheriff” event were able to interact with the equipment, gaining a better understanding of how the technology enhances safety in Vermilion Parish
