Unborn baby dies after alleged assault on Charlotte woman

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A Charlotte woman’s unborn baby died Monday after authorities said her boyfriend physically assaulted her.

Officers responded to a report of domestic assault at a home in the 800 block of Farmhurst Drive in southwest Charlotte Sunday, Nov. 2. 

When officers arrived, they discovered a pregnant female victim who stated she had been physically assaulted by her boyfriend.

The victim declined to be transported to the hospital at the time.

Officers obtained warrants for Arnold Noe Santos Deras, 21, for Assault on a Female, Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence, and Battery of Unborn Child.

Detectives were contacted by the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner Monday, Nov. 3, notifying them that the victim received medical treatment at a local hospital, where she had given birth to a 15-week-old stillborn fetus.

Santos Deras turned himself in to CMPD Thursday, Nov. 6. He is being charged with the following:

  • Breaking and Entering
  • Assault on a Female
  • Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence
  • Battery of an Unborn Child
  • Assault by Strangulation
  • Murder of an Unborn Child

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
