LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Lafayette fire officials responded to a fire today at Pedro’s Restaurant on Ambassador Caffery.

According to authorities, an individual driving in front of Pedro’s Restaurant alerted employees of flames coming from the roof of the building. Employees and about 20 customers exited the restaurant and called 911. Lafayette firefighters responded to the commercial fire at 6:21 p.m.

When officials arrived, flames were coming from a front section of the roof. Emergency crews accessed the roof and extinguished the fire.

Fire officials determined an electrical short in a control box for the neon lights caused the fire. The control box, situated on the roof, ignited the roofing material and wood structure.

Officials said the fire caused substantial damage to the area of origin. The interior of the restaurant had water and smoke damages. No injuries were reported.

The restaurant will be closed until repairs are made.
