Bears trade for Browns DE Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (WGN) — The Chicago Bears have acquired Cleveland Browns defensive end Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

The Bears acquired Tryon-Shoyinka and a 2026 seventh-round selection from the Browns, which Cleveland initially obtained from the Philadelphia Eagles via the Jacksonville jaguars, in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection.

Tryon-Shoyinka has nine tackles and no sacks so far this season in 31 total defensive snaps.

The moves comes as depth along the Bears’ defensive line has dwindled over recent weeks. Chicago placed EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo on Injured Reserve on Tuesday after he suffered a torn Achilles tendon against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Rookie defensive lineman Shemar Turner was placed on Injured Reserve last week after he tore his ACL against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.

Tryon-Shoyinka signed a one-year deal with the Browns last offseason. Before joining Cleveland, he spent four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He posted a career-high 5.0 sacks in 2023 and a career-high 14 quarterback hits the year prior in 2022.

Tryon-Shoyinka has accumulated 138 total tackles (86 solo), including 15.0 sacks and 21 total tackles for loss, as well as two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and eight passes defensed.

In the postseason, Tryon-Shoyinka has six games played (one start), all with the Buccaneers, totaling nine tackles, including one sack.

Tryon-Shoyinka was taken by the Buccaneers with the last pick of the first round (32nd overall) in 2021.

A native of Renton, Wash., Tryon-Shoyinka played collegiately at Washington, totaling nine sacks in 25 games played over two seasons of action (2018-19), including eight sacks in 2019 en route to earning second-team all-conference recognition.

The NFL Trade Deadline came and went at 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday. Tryon-Shoyinka was the lone player the Bears traded for.

On top of the Tryon-Shoyinka trade and Odeyingbo being placed on IR, Chicago also placed offensive lineman Ricky Stromberg on Injured Reserve, and signed offensive lineman Kyle Hergel to the club’s practice squad.
