88-year-old Claiborne Parish resident dies in house fire

CLAIBORNE PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The fire that killed an elderly woman in Homer, La., late Tuesday night is under investigation by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

According to the State Fire Marshal, the fire started around 10:22 pm on November 4. Claiborne Fire District 6 responded to a reported residential fire in the 500 block of Liberty Hill Road. When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed, and the homeowner was deceased inside.

The cause and origin of the fire is still being investigated, and it has not been determined if there were working smoke alarms inside the home of the 88-year-old female victim.

As temperatures begin to drop, the State Fire Marshal reminds all residents about the importance of having working smoke alarms in their homes.

“Any loss of life in a fire is heartbreaking, especially within our close-knit communities,” said DPS Principal Assistant Chief Bryan J. Adams. “We want every family in Louisiana to know that a working smoke alarm can be the difference between tragedy and survival.
