Congressman Fields will focus on resident’s SNAP benefits since 18% of Louisiana’s population relies on the program, according to the Food Nutrition Service under the USDA. Fields said he was happy to see the government of Louisiana provide $150-million to pay 25% of SNAP benefits every week while the government is shutdown.
He said people are invited to come to these town hall to share their concerns and he will answer any questions.
“I’m here just to give people some sense of calm. These are very difficult times. I’ve been through several shutdowns, but never one this long where the President of the United States of America travels around the world to meet with foreign leaders but not meet with American Democrats. I want people to have a sense of comfort that this too shall pass,” said Rep. Fields, (D) District 6.
Tuesday’s town hall was at Southern University’s Metro Nursing campus in downtown Shreveport. He will be in Lafayette Wednesday and Baton Rouge on Thursday.
