Police arrest suspect in Freeport shooting after victim seeks help at local pub

FREEPORT, Ill (WTVO) — Michael Blasing, 66, was arrested by the Freeport Police Department in connection with a shooting on October 30th, after which a 43-year-old victim ran into the Pretzel City Pub seeking help.

According to the Freeport Police Department, officers were called to the Pretzel City Pub, at 1350 W. Galena Avenue, at 10:06 p.m. on Thursday, October 30th, and located the victim, who had come into the bar seeking aid.

Police said the victim was shot at a nearby location. He was taken to Freeport Memorial Hospital to be stabilized before being transported to a Rockford hospital. He is said to be in stable condition at this time.

Freeport Police said Blesing was initially charged with possession of a weapon by a felon.

Police said key interviews were conducted that led to new evidence, resulting in Blesing’s arrest on Friday, October 31st, on the felony charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Blassing is currently at the Stephenson County Jail and will remain in custody pending the outcome of a detention hearing, police said.
