Oregon cross country teams win big at conference championships

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon men and women successfully swept the conference team titles at the 2025 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Friday.

This is the first men’s cross country conference title since 2008, and the women defended their Big Ten win from last season. The Ducks also claimed both the individual conference titles, with Abdel Laadjel winning it on the men’s side and Diana Cherotich for the women.

Oregon cross country has not won both the conference team and individual titles in the same season since 1988. Laadjel becomes the 10th Duck to win a men’s cross-country individual conference title, and on the women’s side, Cherotich is only the ninth. UO now has claimed six of a possible eight conference victories in both cross country and track since joining the Big Ten in 2024.

The Ducks now head to the NCAA West Region Championships in Sacramento, Calif., on Nov 15. The top two teams from that competition will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22.
