Union City police investigate fatal pedestrian crash

(KRON) — A man crossing a street in Union City before sunrise Wednesday morning was struck and killed by a vehicle, according to police.

The Union City Police Department responded at 6:26 a.m. to the intersection of Decoto Road and Royal Ann Drive on the report of a collision involving a pedestrian. Arriving officers found a 55-year-old man who had been struck by a vehicle while crossing Decoto Road.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

Decoto Road at that intersection features two northbound and two southbound lanes, and one left turn lane. Crosswalks wrap around the four-way intersection; however, it is unclear if the pedestrian was inside one at the time of the collision.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, according to Union City PD. Authorities said that alcohol or drug impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

The fatal collision, which marks the fourth of the year in the city, remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact UCPD Traffic Officer Michael Silva at 510-675-5222 or michaels@unioncity.org.
