
Nov. 5: Skin Cancer Screening
A free skin cancer screening will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Day Surgery Department at Rapides Regional Medical Center. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States but is preventable and highly treatable when detected early. Local dermatologists will perform quick, visual screenings. Space is limited. An online breastfeeding class will take place from 9 a.m. to noon for expectant mothers. Taught by an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant, the course will cover benefits, preparation, and common challenges. The free class will be held via Google Meet. Participants will receive login details by email.
Nov. 8: Strides for Diabetes Awareness
Rapides Regional will sponsor the third annual Alexandria Lions Club Strides for Diabetes Awareness 5K and Family Fun Run from 8 to 10 a.m. at the England Airpark Community Center. Proceeds will benefit diabetes research and the Louisiana Lions Camp in Anacoco, which serves children with diabetes.
Nov. 11: Safe Sitter Course
The hospital’s Education Department will host a Safe Sitter course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for boys and girls ages 11–14. The $45 class teaches childcare, CPR, emergency response, and babysitting business skills. Space is limited. To register, call 318-769-4440 or visit rapidesregional.com.
Nov. 12: Child Safety Seat Check
A free car seat inspection will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Scott Street entrance of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. Certified educators will check car seats for recalls, ensure proper installation, and provide safety guidance. Inspections take about 15–25 minutes.
Nov. 13: Diabetes Management Class
A Diabetes Management Class will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Cascade Room at Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. The free class, led by a registered nurse and dietitian, covers nutrition, glucose monitoring, medications, and healthy living strategies. Registration is required by calling 318-769-4440 or visiting rapidesregional.com.
Nov. 15: Prepared Childbirth Class
Expectant parents can participate in a virtual Prepared Childbirth Class from 9 a.m. to noon. The session, led by a certified childbirth instructor, will discuss labor stages, pain management, and delivery options. Register online at rapidesregional.com under Health Education or call 318-769-4440. Participants will receive Google Duo login instructions before class.
