How to find the best trick-or-treat spots in the Big Country
One home that really stands out this time of year belongs to Jennifer Standridge, who said that creating the decorations for this holiday has become a family tradition.
“Our daughter was still kind of that pre-teen age, and when her friends asked her and her teacher asked her, ‘What did you do this weekend? ‘ she said, ‘Build coffins!’ Then she proceeded to mess with her friends, and she kept walking up to them and kind of going, ‘Yeah, you’d fit,'” Standridge recalled.
While Halloween is a time for fun, it’s important to keep safety in mind when going to unfamiliar neighborhoods. Nextdoor is a popular app traditionally used for neighborhood networking, but this time of year, it shares a helpful tool that helps parents decide the best and safest locations for going door-to-door.
Known as “Treat Map,” this feature allows users to access a map of their area with an interactive, and hyper-local guide that shows, in real-time, which houses are handing out candy, which have the most elaborate decorations, and where to find other community events.
Another member of this Wylie neighborhood, Sarah Pickett, said that, as a parent, having a resource like the Treat Map is useful for picking the safest neighborhoods for your kids.
“Obviously, like you want to be able to focus on having fun and not so much where you’re at or who’s around and things like that,” Pickett said.
Representatives from Nextdoor also shared how the Treat Map function can be used to create a custom route for trick-or-treating to ensure that you’re hitting all the best spots.
