Indiana Conservation Officers investigating theft of adaptive wheelchairs and military helmets

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. (WOWO) Indiana Conservation Officers are offering a $5,500 reward as they investigate the theft of two high-tech mobility chairs and additional items taken from Fort Harrison State Park during a series of break-ins late last month.

State park theft under investigation

Officials with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources say two all-terrain mobility chairs were stolen from Fort Harrison State Park. The chairs are designed to assist individuals with disabilities in navigating rugged outdoor trails within the park.

Authorities also reported that two Vietnam War-era helmets were taken during the same series of break-ins.

Equipment designed for accessibility

The stolen mobility chairs are specialized devices used to provide access to outdoor recreational areas that may otherwise be difficult to reach for visitors with limited mobility. Park officials say the equipment is intended to expand access to nature trails and outdoor spaces.

Reward offered for information

Indiana Conservation Officers are offering a $5,500 reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen equipment or the arrest of those responsible.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the thefts to contact the Indiana Department of Natural Resources tip line.

Investigation continues

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as officers work to determine how the break-ins occurred and track down the missing equipment. Further updates are expected as new information becomes available.
