On Oct. 12 at 6:19 p.m., officers responded to gunfire reported in the 1000 block of Addison Street. Investigators believed that the shooting may have sprung from an altercation between people on the street, the department said.
The suspects’ vehicle was allegedly identified through license plate readers as a Honda SUV registered to Lanika Connors, 41.
Investigators used surveillance footage and interviews with witnesses to identify the shooting suspect as Ernest Portlock, 44. Police allege Portlock fired a handgun into a residence in the 1000 block of Addison then ran from the scene, jumping into Connors’ SUV as the pair sped off.
Detectives obtained arrest warrants for both Portlock and Connors, though investigators learned Portlock was out of the country in Jamaica. According to police, in coordination with the San Francisco Police Department’s airport team, officers arrested Portlock as he off boarded his plane at the San Francisco International Airport on Friday.
Connors was arrested in Berkeley on Monday after her SUV was spotted on license plate cameras.
On Tuesday, Portlock was charged with several allegations, including shooting into an occupied dwelling, the negligent discharge of a firearm, being in possession of a firearm and ammunition as a felon, the criminal possession of a firearm while masked, and several felony enhancements.
Connors was charged with allegedly shooting into an occupied dwelling, the negligent discharge of a firearm, and being an accessory.
Both remain in custody in Alameda County.
