ST. JAMES PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The man accused in the 2024 shooting that killed a Lutcher man and wounded another, has been indicted.

On Friday, Oct. 24, 28-year-old Kendrick Kendall Armant was indicted by a St. James Parish grand jury on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first degree murder, involving the death of 19-year-old Makhai Ramon Martin.

Court documents state that around 8:40 p.m. on Oct. 15, 2024, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene of a shooting in the 2100 block of Highway 44.

Deputies were told that a man was enroute to the hospital while a second person alerted them of a second man shot in the area.

Responding deputies arrived to find Martin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. An ambulance took Martin to a hospital where he later died.

The investigation led detectives to identify Armant as the suspect and an arrest warrant was issued. He was booked into the St. James Parish Correctional Center, where he remains without bond.

“This indictment is critical to seeking justice for Makhai Martin and his family. I thank our detectives for their dedication and our District Attorney’s Office for their partnership to ensure justice is served,”
