SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A Salt Lake City man has been charged with aggravated kidnapping after allegedly threatening to shoot a woman and forcing her to drive him and another person out of the city.
Kam-Ron Jones, 20, was charged with three counts of aggravated kidnapping (a first-degree felony), one count of prohibited dangerous weapon conduct (a third-degree felony), and one count of possession or use of marijuana (a class B misdemeanor).
According to charging documents, Jones and another individual met up with three other people, and the driver of the car took them to Liberty Park. At the park, Jones and a teen got out of the car. That person pushed a roller blader to the ground, and Jones filmed it.
They got back in the car, and Jones told the driver to drive and “Get out of Salt Lake!” because an uninvolved person was also filming. The driver told him to get out of the car and that she would mace him if he didn’t.
Allegedly, Jones told the driver that he would “up the switch on her” if she did, which the driver later explained to police meant that he would pull out a gun or shoot her. She told police that she feared for her life and for the lives of the other passengers, who were her family members, so she drove.
While they were driving, they continued to argue, and Jones and the teen continued to threaten the driver. She texted one of the other passengers, and they came up with a plan to go to the mall and escape them, which was successful.
Police later searched Jones’ residence, and they took both Jones and the teen into custody. Allegedly, police found a “large bag” of marijuana in his residence, a handgun, and large amounts of money in the bedroom and kitchen closets.
Jones was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bail. His initial court appearance is scheduled for November 5.
