“The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is aware of a social media page circulating information in the Rockford area,” the statement read.
According to the sheriff’s office, a helicopter from Homeland Security Investigations landed at the casino’s parking lot to deliver evidence to Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation does not involve either the Hard Rock Casino or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The sheriff’s office added that it “complies with all Illinois laws, including the Trust Act and the Way Foreward Act.” Both of those laws prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE to facilitate detentions or deportations of undocumented migrants.
