Our resident LSU experts have some helpful tips you need to have a successful day in Death Valley.
Brevin Williams is WGNO’s 11 a.m. producer. He is a 2022 graduate and he says to be mindful of what shoes you wear to the game. “Make sure you bring your walking shoes because you will be taking thousands of steps. Whether you’re dancing or enjoying a tailgate, you will get a lot of leg work in.”
Good Morning New Orleans 6 a.m. producer Kayle Malone a 2021 graduate. She’s no stranger to the games and tailgates, and fashion that comes with it but says don’t try to overdo your outfits, and dress for the weather. “Dress appropriately, especially if you want to go to the game. Make sure you have a clear bag. They don’t mess around about that stuff.”
Chris Langley produces WGNO News at 5 p.m., voted the 2025 Best Newscast by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasting. As a 2022 graduate, he has seen firsthand just how chaotic traffic can get on game day. “You want to get there early, especially if you’re tailgating. Thousands of people will be going to the campus early in the day to set up their tents, set up their food, set up their chairs. So make sure to get there early because parking can be a nightmare, and you want to get as good of a spot as you can for tailgating.”
Once you’re in the stadium, you could get hungry. Luckily, there are several great options, but Williams has one dish he is particularly fond of. “I highly recommend the jambalaya. I get every time I go to the game. It has the right amount of spice and seasonings.”
Don’t forget to check in with your WGNO meteorologists before you head out. “I’ve learned this the hard way. If it’s raining, be sure to pack a poncho and some rain boots. You do not want to be in tennis shoes or in a sweatshirt if it’s raining, and especially if it’s cold,” said Langley.
Malone recommends you double check your ticket to make sure you don’t end up in the wrong seat, and scope out the restrooms before sitting. “Use the bathroom at the right time. Because people that think that ‘oh half time, I’m just go to the bathroom with everybody else.’ You’re going to be waiting for a long time, and those bathroom lines do get ridiculously long.”
“Go into an LSU football game was one of the most unique experiences of my life. Death Valley is unlike any football atmosphere in the world,” said Langley.
Malone recommends you get into the school spirit and join in on chants! “People do be chanting a lot, and some of the chants can be a little spicy. So just be prepared for that type of stuff. But always join in. Everybody’s super nice. As long as you stay and say go LSU, you’re going to get along with literally everybody.”
“Don’t forget to have fun. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. People come from around the country to enjoy it, so make sure you enjoy it while you’re there. Go Tigers!” said Williams.
