US Marshals arrest New York murder suspect in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The United States Marshals Service has arrested a New York man in Fayetteville wanted for murder.

USMS said in a news release that around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Rephayah Oselmo was arrested after being wanted for second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Officials said the warrant was issued on Oct. 8 in Onondaga County in New York.

Marshals were brought in shortly after the warrant was issued due to the fact that Oselmo was believed to have fled New York, the release said.

USMS said the investigation led them to an apartment complex off South Lewis Avenue.

Oselmo reportedly attempted to flee by jumping out of a second-story window but was taken into custody.

The Syracuse Police Department in New York told KNWA/FOX24 that around 8 p.m. on Sept. 16, officers responded to the 400 block of Bellevue Avenue for a shots fired call.

Once on the scene, officers found Jakari Townsend, 26, of Syracuse, unresponsive and suffering a gunshot wound.

Townsend was taken to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Detectives interviewed people and later identified Oselmo, 18, as the suspect.

SPD said Oselmo will be held in custody in Arkansas before being extradited to New York.
