BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A Louisiana man has been arrested following an investigation by the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office into allegations of abuse against an infirm person.

Markus M. D. Stadium, 36, of Houma, was charged with cruelty to the infirm.

According to APSO, a healthcare facility reported possible abuse on October 6 after a patient was brought in for treatment with suspicious injuries.

Investigators learned that a healthcare attendant had told the victim’s family the injuries were caused by wasp bites. However, family members grew suspicious due to how often the wounds appeared and their unusual nature.

Medical personnel later determined that the patient had multiple burn injuries across his body, APSO said.

Detectives ultimately uncovered electronic evidence showing Stadium burning the victim with a barbecue grill lighter, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stadium later turned himself in and was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $1,000,000.
