FUELED | Witches’ Brews and Toy Tattoos: The non-candy guide to Halloween treats
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — For more than a decade, we’ve been encouraging families to think outside the candy bag for Halloween — and this year, we’re giving you a head start. Kids will still get plenty of candy wherever they go, but at your house, you can be the one who offers something different: fun, festive treats that last longer than a sugar rush.

We want to see your Halloween!

This year, we want YOU to join in! Show us what “non-candy” and other healthier treats you’ll be handing out. Share your photos and videos by email or social:

  • Email: gmno@wngo.com
  • Tag us on social: @WGNO @CarriganChauvin @MollyKimballRD @EatFitOchsner

Share by Monday October 27 and we’ll feature our favorites in our FUELED Wellness + Nutrition segment next week!

Affordable, festive, non-candy treats kids love:

  • Halloween themed tattoos and stickers
  • Glow ‘fingers’
  • Halloween pencils and crayons
  • Slime, bubbles and bouncy balls
  • Vampire teeth and glow sticks
  • Halloween necklaces, bracelets and glasses

Can’t find better-for-you treats that are specifically Halloween-themed? Wrap any single-serving packs with Halloween-themed ribbon or tuck fun treats into Halloween-themed plastic pumpkins.

These swaps are surprisingly affordable — often cheaper than candy — and automatically allergy-friendly. They make your house a memorable stop, and kids are genuinely excited to get something unique. Check your local retailers, along with stores like Target, for affordable, fun non-candy treats.

Why it Matters

  • Breaks the cycle of more-and-more candy
  • Offers inclusive, allergy-friendly fun
  • Encourages creativity and play, not just sugar
