Stolen car chase in Shreveport ends with police arrest

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Shreveport police have arrested a man that led them on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Police say that Derek Lockhart reportedly stole a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta from a local rental company. Officers were able to spot the vehicle near the intersection of Hollywood Avenue and Hearne, but Lockhart fled in the vehicle when officers attempted to stop him.

The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed underneath Interstate 49 along Hollywood Avenue. The occupants in the other vehicle were not injured. Lockhart was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was arrested on two counts of battery of a police officer, one count of resisting an officer with force or violence, theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated obstruction of a highway, and driving without a license.
