Convicted felons captured after police chase through Shreveport in stolen vehicle

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—An early morning police chase throughout the city of Shreveport ended with a long list of charges for two who are no stranger to the law.

Officers say they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Cartez Thomas when Thomas refused to comply and took off, leading officers on a chase through the city.

The vehicle eventually came to a stop, and both Thomas and the passenger, Roshun Richmond, hopped out and ran. They were quickly caught and taken in by officers.

Upon their arrest, both Thomas and Richmond were found to have guns and drugs.

Further investigation revealed that both men are also convicted felons.

Thomas had a prior conviction stemming from a 2024 burglary case. Richmond has multiple 2024 convictions, including burglary, narcotics, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Investigators also determined that the vehicle Thomas was driving had been reported stolen.

Thomas now faces the following charges:

  • Aggravated flight from an officer
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Resisting an officer
  • Possession of marijuana
  • Illegal possession of stolen things
  • Multiple traffic violations

Richmond has been charged with:

  • Distribution of narcotics
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance
  • Resisting an officer

The Shreveport Police Department says it remains committed to removing illegal weapons and drugs from our streets and holding repeat offenders accountable.

The investigation remains ongoing.
