WEBER COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — A second person has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that killed one and injured two others, including a 5-year-old, on August 31, 2025.
Christian Elias Antonio Ruiz, 17, has been formally charged with murder (a first-degree felony), two counts of felony discharge of a firearm (third-degree felonies), and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon by minor–specific weapons (third-degree felonies.)
He has also been charged with obstruction of justice with capital/first degree felony conduct, which is designated as a second-degree felony.
Ruiz is the second person to have been charged with murder in connection to the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Jesus Cuadras Garcia on August 31, 2025 during street races.
Codefendant Michael Jr. Robles Gaisbauer, 18, was also charged with one count of murder, in addition to eight counts of felony discharge of a firearm, and one count of obstruction of justice.
A third individual, a 15-year-old, has been listed as a codefendant, but his charges are not listed.
Case History
On August 31, 2025, law enforcement responded to 9350 West and 900 South in Weber County after reports of a shooting. They were informed by witnesses that a large gathering was there and observing street races.
According to witnesses, two female individuals began to fight, before rapid gunshots came from multiple directions. Jesus Cuadras Garcia was shot in the head and transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died as a result of the injuries.
A 5-year-old was shot in the leg, and a third male individual was also shot in the back. They both survived.
Multiple witnesses reported that Christian Ruiz was at the scene and one witness said that Ruiz told them that he had been at the street races. Ruiz also allegedly stated that he started shooting in the same direction as the 15-year-old co-defendant was shooting and was holding a Glock and a Keltec.
This witness also told law enforcement that Ruiz had sold the guns to an individual who transported them out of state. Reportedly, law enforcement also found multiple images on phones showing Christian Ruiz holding the same firearm models used in the shooting.
Law enforcement found over thirty shell casings on the scene, and some of those casings also matched the rifle owned by co-defendant Michael Gaisbauer.
Gaisbauer allegedly told law enforcement that he fired a rifle toward the crowd eight times, causing others to start shooting, and he was booked into the Weber County Jail on September 9, 2025.
Gaisbauer’s girlfriend was also arrested for obstruction of justice, but she was never formally charged.
Ruiz was formally charged on October 16, 2025, and he is currently being held in a juvenile detention center.
