Woman killed in crash on south side of Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — An investigation is underway after a woman was killed in a crash on Indy’s south side Sunday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 4 a.m., officers responded to the 8100 block of Shelby Street. When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female pedestrian who appeared to have been struck by a motorist.

The woman was transported to an area hospital before she was pronounced dead, according to police.

Investigators believe that the woman was struck by a motorist who was travelling southbound of Shelby Street. The motorist who allegedly struck the pedestrian remained at the crash scene.

Another motorist, however, later ran into the vehicle that initially struck the pedestrian. The motorist who allegedly hit the vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene.

IMPD crash investigators responded to the scene to assist first-responding officers. Those investigators are still working to obtain additional information about the crash and circumstances that led to it.
